The small city of Lancaster is rich in tourist delights, including numerous ancient buildings and structures easily accessible by foot.

Visitors will enjoy spectacular Lancaster castle, an imposing medieval delight poised above the Lancaster skyline. Vital in its day and still owned by the queen the castle is now used for daily tours, with many locals considering the medieval structure to be one of the finest examples of castle design in the UK.

Lancaster is renowned as a fantastic area to cycle. With its large network of cycling tracks the city has become a demonstration town, with local residents encouraged by the local council to leave their cars at home and enjoy all the healthy benefits of cycling.

In its early days Lancaster was well known for its fishing and shipbuilding, however with the slow decline of the shipping industry and river silt all but destroying the local stock of sturgeon the town gradually fell from the list of the richest towns in the UK.

Slowly Lancaster grew a reputation for leisure, which still exists today. Fabulous pubs and fine cuisine make the town a terrific place to spend a weekend. Local cuisine still consists of fresh fish and shrimp caught from the River Lune, whilst the more adventurous diners can enjoy fine Japanese, French and Spanish gastronomy the at the many cafes and restaurants on offer.
